The teachers behind WordCraft.
WordCraft is founded and personally taught by Ms Phua Shih Wen and Ms Ong Kheng May, ex-MOE educators with more than 15 years of teaching experience.
We believe that students make the strongest progress when teaching is clear, personal and purposeful.
We focus only on English Language and English Literature — the subjects we know, teach and are passionate about.

Our story.
Why Wordcraft?
“Word” reflects our love and appreciation for written and spoken language.
“Craft” refers to a skill that can be shaped, refined and strengthened over time.
Together, WordCraft represents our desire to help students hone their expertise in language, to become more thoughtful, precise and confident users of English. We want to help students notice how they think, where they struggle and what will help them grow.
What inspired us?
After years in the classroom, we wanted to create a space where English and Literature could be taught with more attention, discussion and care.
In school, class sizes can be large, making it difficult for every student to receive the level of personalised feedback they need. Weaker students may struggle to keep up while stronger ones may not be given opportunities for stretch. We also saw a gap in centres that specialise in both English Language and Literature.
As teachers, we wanted to help bridge that gap. WordCraft is a smaller, more personal learning space where students can ask questions, discuss ideas and receive feedback that is specific to them.
What we believe in.

Understanding what
a question is asking
Reading texts closely and purposefully
Organising ideas
before writing
Explaining thoughts
and ideas clearly
Supporting interpretations with evidence
Revising and improving written work
Our Teachers
Personally Taught. Intentionally Small.
Both our founders personally teach WordCraft classes.
With an average of 4 students and a maximum of 6, we are able to notice misconceptions, draw quieter students into discussion and give each learner meaningful attention.
This is the heart of WordCraft: focused teaching, thoughtful feedback and a learning environment where students are known.
